Meetings

Overeater's Anonymous Third Tradition states, “The only requirement for OA membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.”

Generally, OA meetings are closed unless otherwise noted.  This means that they are limited to members and prospective members.  This gives the participants greater freedom to discuss their own ideas and feelings.  Some meetings are considered open and will be open to OA members.

Many groups also hold meetings where OA members tell their stories to anyone interested in the disease of compulsive overeating.  This type of meeting is called an Open Speaker meeting.  Some groups invite members of the professional community to hear how the Overeaters Anonymous program aids recovery.
